Someone’s client walked past me a few times in the studio the other day and I became self conscious of the fact that each time I was still on tumblr. I derive much pleasure from simply looking at images I find visually arresting. I can sit for hours on end, just looking at things, for the same reason I own so many Japanese fashion magazines and Manga when I’m unable to even read them, I just look at them. When I travelled I would voraciously buy books so I could look at them later, without fail each overseas trip I took, I had to send back kilos of books and magazines.
When I make myself draw for three hours straight, I’m counting down the minutes. When I’m just trawling through blogs though, two, three hours can pass in an instant.
This isn’t an original observation by any means, people on tumblr experience this all the time, but day to day no one else I know IRL actually uses tumblr. What is this addiction to visuals? The designers and creatives I know don’t get how I spend so much time on this thing, but what I don’t get is why they aren’t?
